Introduction

Drums & Dust is a Pan-African cultural podcast dedicated to the re-education of current and future generations of Africans worldwide. Rooted in art, memory, and ancestral knowledge, the podcast explores who Africans truly are—before colonial disruption—and the central role art has always played in African societies.

The drums symbolize rhythm, communication, spirituality, and continuity—tools our ancestors used to teach, heal, gather, and transmit knowledge across generations. The dust represents land, ancestry, time, and memory—the remnants of history that still carry truth beneath the surface.

Through storytelling, music, conversations, and sound, Drums & Dust uncovers how African art forms—music, rhythm, dance, symbols, oral tradition, and spirituality—shaped societies long before colonialism, and how these same tools remain vital for mental liberation today.

Purpose & Mission

The mission of Drums & Dust is to:

Re-educate Africans about their true historical, cultural, and spiritual identity
Expose how colonial narratives disrupted African self-perception
Restore pride, consciousness, and cultural memory through art
Bridge ancestral knowledge with contemporary creative expression
Preserve wisdom for future generations so it is never lost again

Podcast Structure

Ad3ra DJ and Nina Wanjala as co-hosts
We will host artists in alignment with our vision for 1hour, engaging them in an intellectual and entertaining conversation encompassing all matters art, and life in general looking at the past, modern times and the future of our core themes.
We will initially start with Third Eye Resident DJ’s who will perform a 1hour set and thereafter have a sit down with the hosts of the podcast as we gradually grow and expand to inviting artists who aren’t affiliated with the organization.
As for the venue, the organization is still having conversations with certain studios, and this will be confirmed early next year. This will determine whether we will shoot at a studio or independently run the podcast with our own tech, crew, and venue.

The most effective way of running the podcast is having a total of 4 DJs on a particular day, having them perform their sets and then moving on to the podcast section of our recordings. This allows us to use one weekend to get enough content for a month; we will then release the episodes weekly until the following month and keep it that way to avoid all that is required to shoot weekly.
